    The Slutsky matrix is the matrix of partial derivatives of Hicksian (compensated) demand, and Hicksian demand is the gradient of the expenditure function, so the Slutsky matrix is the Hessian (matrix of second partial derivatives) of the expenditure function, which automatically makes the Slutsky matrix .
